Hein Van de Geyn

a bass player who recorded with lots of wonderful musicians like; Chet Baker, Dee dee Bridgewater, Toots Thielemans and many others.

...wrote this about Caroline

Caroline de Rooij age just 22 is able to make a beautiful recording, choses challenging and interesting material, gets a good band together... it is rare to encounter such talent.

It was a pleasure to work with this kind of talent and it is interesting to try to assess what the future will bring. that clear pure voice, able to deal with many styles, flexible musically...

Of course all this didn't come by accident. Being born in an extremely musical family, studying with wonderful teachers at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, growing stronger with every performance...

Let's really keep an eye on her.

A voice clear as glass and great intonation.
Caroline de Rooij combines traditional and modern influences with an all natural charme and sensual interpretation.

I first heard Caroline perform at a Barry Harris workshop in Verona, Italy.
I was, and still am, most impressed by her inspired, sensitive and clear interpretation of a standard tune, echoing both a sense of tradition and freshness at the same time.
Later, when I heard her perform at her own gigs I noticed her superb tone, intonation and sense of structure.
In the improvised chorusses she sings melodic lines that are concise and to the point, outlining the chordal structure just like a horn player would.
Caroline is a musician first, and being myself a pianist/accompanist i wish to be always working with THAT kind of a singer!
